Active Transport
Active transport is defined as physical activity undertaken as a means of transport and not purely as a form of recreation. Active transport generally refers to walking and cycling for travel to and/or from a destination, but may also include other activities such as the incidental activity associated with the use of public transport (Victorian Government. Go For Your Life Strategy ww.goforyourlife.vic.gov.au 2006 [cited 2006 15th August]).
Try leaving the car at home and walk, ride or scoot to school instead. Active transport is good for your health, teaches children road safety and also reduces your environmental footprint and transport costs.
Your child’s school should be involved in the Ride2School Program or Walk to School Day in October. If your school is not involved suggest it to your school P.E. teacher or nominated Wellbeing Coordinator.
